After repeated frustrations with spammers, I have decided to temporarily give up on maintaining the forum. At first the spam load was manageable, with only 3-5 new spam registrations, and half a dozen or so spam posts per day (mostly graphic pornography and generic meds). The last time I logged on, there were over 400 new posts, all spam, and more than half of the members on the message board were spammers, so I decided to call it quits.
Sorry to all of those who have posted, or wanted to post. At some time in the future I will start it again.

Boy, that is discouraging for you. Doesn’t forum software have tools to prevent that sort of thing? I have heard the complaint before, but some forums seem to run OK.
My sympathies for your trouble with the spam trash.

Unfortunately the program I was using, php BB2, does not have anti spam software built in, and it doesn’t even have a mass editing program, so I had to delete each spam post individually, and ban each spam user individually. When I re-start the forum, I will try to find better software.

Your blog provided good information. I was actually searching online for downloads. Thanks.

And now the spammers, (3 and 4, above), are hitting the regular posts. I have this issue on my site to some extent also. I use Akismet and another couple of tools, but the simple ones like these often slip through. Frustrating.
